Here we have an
Antique Private Conversation Flexible Tube Hearing Aid.
This antique "hearing aid" Works Great !!  It has a flexible, graduated diameter, 'gutta-percha' tube that has a multi-layer woven wool covering.  The smallest diameter tube ending has a curved Bakelite earpiece the listener inserts in their outer ear.  The opposite, larger diameter tube ending has a Bakelite 'cone' that the 'talker' holds to relay their conversation to the listener.  The device is approx. 42" long.  No cracks in the Backlite ends.  The wool covering has some minor wear (se pics). These devices allowed the 'hard-of-hearing' to have a somewhat 'private' conversation, rather than having a person yell across the room !!
